The “Ta-Ya Wanglai Marathon 2023,” organized by Ta Ya Group, officially commenced this morning (26th) in Guanmiao, Tainan, with a total of 5,200 participants. Prior to the event, Chairman Shen Shang-Hung delivered a speech, emphasizing Ta Ya’s longstanding commitment to cultivating Tainan. Now on its third year, the Wanglai Marathon has seen increasing participation, evolving into a significant event that unites local businesses with the community (including agricultural associations, district offices, schools and residents). It is hoped that this event will contribute to local revitalization. Chairman Shen expressed gratitude for the favorable weather, which is cool and not too warm, remarking, “Tainan has not seen rain for over 600 days, so if it were to rain today, it would further validate that it is a good day!”

Ta Ya Group has been deeply rooted in Tainan for a long time, actively promoting the local sports culture in recent years. In addition to leveraging local resources and culture, they encourage employee participation in sports. In 2019, they initiated the first dedicated road race event in Guanmiao, aiming to give back to society through their influence. Now on its third year, the “Ta Ya Wanglai Marathon 2023” has seen significant growth in registration, attracting nearly 5,200 runners. The event includes various race categories: the 42K Ta-Ya Wanglai Group (1,001 participants), the 30K Ta Ya Scenic Group (214 participants), the 21K Ta Ya Half Marathon Group (718 participants), the 14K Ta Ya Color Run Group (644 participants) and the 7K Ta Ya Health Group (2,578 participants). The full marathon course is specially designed to pass through Wanglai Road and reach the Township Road No. 168, symbolizing a route of good luck. Ta Ya hopes that all runners can successfully complete the race of the “prosperous path.”

The organizing committee, led by Chairman Shen Shang-Hung of Ta Ya Group, Mayor Huang Wei-Che of Tainan City, Legislator Wang Ting-Yu, spokesperson and national marathon record holder Hsu Yu-Fang and Tokyo Olympics javelin thrower Huang Shih-Feng, among other esteemed guests, fired the starter pistol on stage to cheer and support the participants. Just like last year, Shen Shang-Hung participated in the 7K route and happily shared afterward, “I felt noticeably better in terms of physical stamina this time. I had fewer breaks compared to last year, perhaps due to my regular swimming routine. I hope to challenge the 14K distance in the next race.”

In addition to encouraging people to actively engage in sports, the marathon also aims to deepen local connections.
