Tainan City's first solar power plant, located at Guanmiao headquarter of Ta Ya Electric Wire and Cable, has been approved for registration by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and will commence operations by the end of this year (2015). On the 25th of this month, Tainan City Government Bureau of Economic Development held a seminar at Tainan City Government Building to announce this result.

Chief Secretary Wang Junbo of Tainan City Government Bureau of Economic Development said: "This makes the first solar power plant to be approved by the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Tainan City, and the ninth nationwide. The power plant is located atop the roof of Ta Ya Electric Wire and Cable, Guanmiao headquarter, offering a capacity of 2,392kW that generates approximately 2.85 million KWH of power and reduces 1,487 tons of CO2 emission per year. This is the best example to save energy and reduce carbon. Hopefully with efforts contributed by the city government, businesses, and the public. We may develop a carbon-less living environment that makes Tainan a true green city."

Vice President Chuang, Pa Kuei of Ta Ya's Energy & Telecom Cable Business Group thanked the city government for helping with the application, and emphasized: "Ta Ya has long been committed to the development of green products. From environmentally certified power cables and fiber optics to lead-free PVC cable productions, we willingly and voluntarily contribute to building our pristine homeland. In addition, we have founded a new business entity named Ta Ya Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. that specializes in the development of renewable energy."

Installation of 499.5kW type-3 solar power plant had already begun on Ta Ya's Guanmiao Site rooftop in the beginning of the year, and is scheduled to commence operation by the end of July. With the 2,891.5kW type-1 solar power plant scheduled to complete by the end of this year, Guanmiao should deliver power capacity of more than 3.4 million KWH per year.

This construction was carried out by Touch Solar Power, a 100%-owned subsidiary of Ta Ya Green Energy Technology. Type-1 solar power plant offers single-system capacity of more than 500kW. Given the fact that it is used mainly to resell the electricity it produces, the power plant needs to undergo more than 18 months of stringent inspection and validation, and obtain electricity supply license before commencing sale of electricity. The electricity sales agreement has a 20-year tenor, renewable upon maturity.

In addition to participating in seminars organized by Bureau of Economic Development, Ta Ya Green Energy Technology is also promoting solar power construction services in its own capacity, and hopes to attract businesses into sharing their rooftops for a carbon-less, green city.
