Chairman Shen, Shang-Hung has led Taya Group(1609) for over 36 years, transforming the company from a traditional cable manufacturer into a leading brand in energy integration management. Under his leadership, the group has ventured into new fields and reached new heights.Shen, Shang-Hung revealed that his approach to work has always been guided by the "Five Electric Poles" theory, setting both short-term goals and long-term plans to achieve success step by step.
In his personal life, Shen, Shang-Hung maintains a disciplined and rigorous routine, which he believes enhances his ability to lead the company effectively. He wakes up at 4 a.m. every day to begin working on business matters. This early morning time is crucial as it is the quietest and most mentally clear part of the day, allowing him to make the best decisions.
When talking about his management philosophy, Shen, Shang-Hung relates it to his passion for sports. He enjoys swimming and running in the mornings and often goes cycling in his spare time, having ridden to Wuling twice.
Cycling has greatly inspired my views on life, Shen, Shang-Hung says. What started as a way to pass the time and maintain fitness turned into a profound experience, thanks to enthusiastic invitations from friends. Through cycling, he not only enjoyed the endorphin rush but also gained valuable life insights.
He explains that cycling up a hill can be quite exhausting. However, he counts five electric poles each time he rides and sets a goal to reach the distance of those five poles. By counting every 50 meters, he gradually reaches his target, then continues to the next set of five poles. Eventually, he arrives at his destination.
This experience taught Shen, Shang-Hung that while dreams can be grand, they must be supported by short-term goals. Setting simple objectives provides psychological satisfaction and motivation to advance to the next stage. As long as one continues moving forward, the ultimate goal can be achieved.
He adds that while dreams may seem distant and unattainable, they are not without the potential for realization. The key is resilience and patience. Although the process can be discouraging, the "Five Electric Poles" method offers continual achievement, which is essential for progress. This is a principle he frequently shares with his employees.
