Strengthening Power Grid Safety and Resilience! Taiwan Professional Electrical Engineers Association Partners with Ta Ya Group to Safeguard Public Electricity Safety

Aging electrical distribution systems in old buildings are prone to electrical fires, endangering residents' lives, which has been frequently reported in recent years. The Taiwan Professional Electrical Engineers Association has partnered with TAYA Pristine Homeland Foundation to promote the "Electrical Safety Inspection for Old Homes" program, combining both parties' expertise and resources to jointly protect Taiwan citizens' electrical safety.
Why are electrical cables and the overall resilience of power systems so closely related? Taiwan Professional Electrical Engineers Association Chairman Huang Yu-Ming made an analogy: "Electrical cables have different voltages such as extra-high voltage, high voltage, and low voltage, just like the human body's major arteries, blood vessels, and capillaries, delivering oxygen-rich blood from the heart and lungs (power generation end) through arteries, large and small blood vessels, and capillaries to supply various organs. When delivering 220V or 110V to households or commercial electricity use, attention should be paid to the quality of electrical cables to avoid aging and deterioration problems that could affect the resilience of the distribution system."
The entire power grid is as complex as the human circulatory system. After power generation at the source, electricity is transmitted and distributed to substations, then delivered to end users through the grid. Many links rely on electrical cables playing a key role in transmission, and electrical engineers must utilize their professional knowledge and skills in planning and design to integrate all aspects of electrical engineering including power transmission and distribution and emergency power systems.
With smart grid and digitalization trends, Huang Yu-Ming mentioned that the institute provides multi-faceted services to help member engineers master the latest solutions. For example, the Taiwan Professional Electrical Engineers Association has established various professional committees to provide training seminars on new products and technologies for industry professionals; the institute also serves as a bridge between government and industry, providing technical advice and promoting policy formulation and professional design work related to smart grids, renewable energy, and energy storage system integration.
「"In the era of sustainable energy conservation, professional training for electrical engineers will focus more on several aspects, such as mastering energy efficiency, integrating renewable energy into existing grids, strengthening smart grids and digital technology, green building and sustainable engineering planning, and even electric vehicle charging stations." Huang Yu-Ming added.
In Huang Yu-Ming's observation, he noted that high-quality electrical cables can ensure power system reliability, resilience, stability, and cable quality lifespan, and Ta Ya Group, which professionally produces electrical cables, is a key contributor in this regard. "Ta Ya continuously innovates and ventures into energy businesses, creating a complete 'energy chain' that closely links upstream, midstream, and downstream supply chain partners. If I were to describe this company's transformation in one sentence, it would be 'actively developing sustainability, emphasizing environment, humanities, innovation across domains and multi-faceted.'" he said.
Ta Ya Group has indeed made significant contributions to ESG issues. In addition to working with the Taiwan Professional Electrical Engineers Association to conduct electrical safety inspections for old residential buildings, it has also strengthened its product R&D capabilities on environmental issues, launching low-smoke halogen-free environmental cables that can reduce environmental burden during manufacturing, construction, and use processes, serving as a paradigm for green innovation in Taiwan's electrical cable industry. Huang Yu-Ming finally emphasized, "Ta Ya is approaching its 70th anniversary as a group. We will continue to work hand in hand with Ta Ya Group, pursuing innovation while not forgetting to consider the sustainable beauty of our homeland!"
