2012 Workshop on Innovation and Development of Power Transmission and Transformation Projects” was held in May 02, 2012. The workshop was cosponsored by National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology (or First University), TA YA Electric Wire & Cable Co., and Hua Eng Wire and Cable Co., Ltd. with the support of the Taipower – Department of Transmission Line and Substation Construction – Southern Region Construction Office.

Nearly 250 representatives from academic institutions, industry, and Taipower, including ZhenYuan Chen, President of the First University, XianZhang Zhang, head of the Taipower Southern Region Construction Office, WuNan Fang, President of Hua Eng and DeZong Lu, Vice President of TA YA, were invited for the workshop. They enthusiastically discussed the topics of the “Operating Challenges that the Power Business is Facing” and the “Development and Challenges of the High Voltage Cable System ZhenYuan Chen said in the opening speech that electric power is one of the indispensible energies in daily life and its development will be affected if power is in short supply.

Many close industryacademy cooperation projects on renewable energy are under implementation. The windsolar power generation converter developed by Professor ZhiLong Shen in recent days uses the complementary characteristics of wind power and solar energy to supply power. The T5 electronic Ballast for fluorescent lamps uses a softstart device to extend the service life of a lamp by 2 to 3 times. These innovations make a contribution to the development of renewable energy.

XianZhang Zhang hoped that different voices from industry, government, and academic circles could bring about innovative thoughts for power transmission, transformation projects in the future, and improve the service effectiveness of Taipower.
