The 50 China berry saplings planted by Green Inside foundation in March this year at Benyuanliao drainage line have grown progressively after six months of delicate care. In the morning of the 19th, the volunteers made their sixth weeding before handing the trees over to Water Resources Bureau for further maintenance.

Mr. Chen Renjiong from Water Resources Bureau said: "This tree plantation activity had been a model cooperation between the public and the private sector. This was the first time that the Water Resources Bureau had ever attempted to cut open the asphalt surface and dig tree holes along the drainage line. The early stage of the plantation was maintained by the private corporation, as it required more manpower and funding. Once the saplings have secured their roots, they are handed over to the Water Resources Bureau." The Water Resources Bureau was especially grateful for the contributions made by Ta Ya volunteers.

Residents of Home With Love have joined Ta Ya volunteers for their weeding activities since May, and this time was no exception. They appeared on time as usual and joined the volunteers in weeding, shovel by shovel. These saplings were less than one meter tall when first planted, and six months later they have grown taller than an average adult. Even after Typhoon Soudelor in early August, most of the China berries exhibited only a slight tilt. Before handing them over to the Water Resources Bureau, Ta Ya gave all the trees new braces to help them grow.

This trial plantation of China berry spanned just 100 meters on both sides of Benyuanliao drainage outlet. In the next year, Ta Ya volunteers will continue working with the Water Resources Bureau as they did this year, where: Ta Ya will provide voluntary manpower to plant the trees, install braces, fertilize, irrigate and maintain for 6 months. The new plantations will extend downstream towards the pumping station in greater numbers, so that local residents may have a green shaded walkway where they can enjoy their stroll. Lastly, the participants hung their memorial plates on the trees and concluded their mission a success.
