2016/11/05
President Tsai Ing-Wen traveled to Guanmiao, Tainan, today for a visit at Ta Ya Group to learn about the current status of industry transformation and operations of private businesses. Tsai Ing-Wen said in her speech that she had learned many things and seen for herself the ambition of local businesses during her visit. In addition, successful transformation of Taiwan's industries requires the effort of both the government and private businesses.

Tsai Ing-Wen's visit to Ta Ya Group had taken place at the headquarter located in Guanmiao District, Tainan City, where she was briefed on the company's current status. Ta Ya Group Chairman Shen Shang-Hung said that for 61 years, Ta Ya has rooted in Taiwan and supported the government's policies including the first southbound expansion, for which Ta Ya established branch offices in both southern and northern Vietnam and later became the first 100% foreign-owned company to be listed for trading in Vietnam. He looked forward to develop more beneficial relationships with ASEAN and South Asian countries through the government's new southbound expansion policy.

Shen Shang-Hung said that Ta Ya has responded to the five innovative industries identified by the government with a head start in green energy. It has developed specialized power cables for solar energy, offshore wind power, and tidal power applications, as well as specialized cable for Internet of Things, smart machinery, and national defense.

Tsai Ing-Wen said in her speech that she had witnessed many things during her visit in Tainan, particularly the ambition of local businesses. It was essential for the local government to play its role in supporting industries of the future, and the central government's strategies require equal responses from the local government and businesses.

Tsai Ing-Wen said that transformation of Taiwan's industries can be made possible only with the support of local governments and businesses. The government's new industrial policies focus largely on innovation, particularly the type of innovation needed for conventional industries to transform and explore new opportunities.

Tsai Ing-Wen said that Shalun Green Energy Industry Research and Development Center will play a key role in Tainan's or even Taiwan's progress to the next step. Tainan City possesses the natural advantages to develop green and renewable energy, plus the local government has demonstrated strong ambition in making that happen. In the future, Shalun will see occupants such as research institutions and modern businesses. It is a crucial industrial project at this juncture, one that requires the utmost wisdom and persistence to realize.
