The first floating solar power and photovoltaic system in Tainan City, which was installed by Hengs Technology, a Taya Group affiliate, was put into operation and connected to the grid on October 26. All materials, equipment, and designs are MIT (Made in Taiwan) and construction was carried out by a Taiwanese company. The goal of this project is to support the Tainan Solar City Program through the provision of top quality facilities.

The first floating solar power and PV system in Tainan is located on the flood detention pond near the service center of the Yongkang Technology Industrial Park. The facility was designed and constructed by Hengs Technology went into operation and was connected to the grid on October 26 less than six months after initiation of the project. The floating platform was secured by tying it to helical piles driven into the pond bottom with steel cables. The platform is 26.7 meters wide and 37.8 meters long and employs a 100% recyclable high-density polyethylene (HDPE) structure with anti-corrosion and UV- and typhoon-resistant properties. A total of 344 solar panels have been installed on the platform to achieve a total installed capacity of 101.48kWp and a projected annual power generation of around 120,000 kWh.

The floating system has multiple advantages over generic rooftop and ground-mounted PV systems. Firstly, they do not take up any land space. Secondly, the power generation efficiency of water-cooled solar power modules can exceed that of generic systems by 11%. Thirdly, floating platforms can help preserve pond ecologies through inhibition of evaporation and algae growth.

Hengs Technology is a professional provider of one-stop solutions in the field of solar power plants. The company has almost 20 years’ experience in this industry and has completed over 500 projects with a total capacity of 120MW.  It became the first EPC business in Taiwan to acquire an O&M certification issued by the German TÜV Rheinland in October 2017. This clearly indicates that the installation and maintenance capabilities of the company meet top global standards.

Tainan City Government actively promotes its “Tainan Solar City Program” which aims to increase the total installed capacity of floating solar power facilities to 33MW. Hengs Technology will tap the resources of Taya Group to provide a top-quality, zero-emission, clean energy source.
