Amid intensifying climate change and the worldwide economic effects of the Covid-19 epidemic, green energy is becoming a new engine driving economic development. With the government’s efforts to promote the six core strategic industries, the energy market leader Ta Ya Group is expanding its green energy business. In 2020, Ta Ya Group subsidiary Sin Jhong Solar Power Co., Ltd. built Taiwan’s first large-scale ground-based solar power plant in Xuejie District, Tainan City. The 76 MW plant was opened on 3 February 2021. It is estimated that over the next 20 years, the plant will generate more than 1.8 billion kWh of electricity, bringing in revenues of TWD 9 billion yuan. With its installed capacity, the power plant is slated to set new records in the industry.

Ta Ya Group opens 76 MW Sin Jhong Solar Power Plant, catapulting Taiwan into the international league

The International Energy Agency has announced that in 2020, the world’s newly installed renewable energy power generation capacity will reach a new high. Nearly 90% of the new power generation capacity will come from renewable energy sources, while only 10% will come from natural gas and coal. It is expected that by 2025, green electricity will overtake fossil fuels, which have dominated for 50 years as the largest source of electricity.
Low-carbon investments are taking the lead around the world, as low-carbon business models are becoming key to sustainable business operations. 2020 is the first year of brand communication for the Ta Ya Group, active for many years in energy generation, transmission, storage and conversion. The group’s subsidiaries include Sin Jhong Solar Power Co., Ltd. specialized in green energy development and innovation. The 76 MW solar power plant in Tainan was connected to the power grid for power distribution on 8 December 2020. It is not only Taiwan’s first large-scale land-based solar power plant on private land, but also sits on the country’s most sun-drenched spot in Xuejia District. On 3 February 2020, a ceremony to thank the earth and to open the facility was held.

Power generation that protects the environment and stimulates the local economy

Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, and Kaohsiung, important bases for aquaculture and fish farms in southwestern Taiwan, are facing a population outflow from their farming and fishing villages and serious and increasing manpower shortages in the industries that remain.
The 76 MW solar power plant in Tainan is the first large-scale ground-based solar plant on private land. The plant is built above and between existing traditional and natural fish farm ponds. Its frames and feet hardly take up ground space and do not negatively impact the fish farms.
Indeed, the power plant will help retain and redistribute rain and flood water while draining excess water during the rainy seasons, which will benefit the farms and revitalize the environment. The water basins also help mitigate the effects from the dust carried from northeast China during the annual dust storm season.
The power plant design uses seamless frames to facilitate water drainage. Ta Ya’s patented 380 W monocrystalline modules and amorphous transformers minimize the loss of power, thus balancing economic interests with sustainability.

TWD 9 billion in revenue from power generation – a new milestone in the green economy

Ta Ya Group chairman Shen, Shang-Hung noted that the group has 53 solar power plants with a total installed capacity of 120 MW. By the end of 2020, their combined power generation will reach approximately 13 million kWh. The 76 MW new solar power plant in Tainan will generate more than 1.8 billion kWh over the next 20 years, equivalent to the carbon absorption of 83 million trees. The revenue from this power generation will surpass TWD 9 billion. This project is slated to set several kinds of new records in the power industry.
As a leading brand in the energy industry, Ta Ya takes its corporate social responsibilities (CSR) very seriously. In the context of global trends, renewable energy can help Taiwanese manufacturers to comply with the increasing CSR requirements of energy-intensive major customers. Ta Ya also collaborates with the green supply chains of such key players as Apple, Microsoft and Amazon and has secured a key position in those chains.
Other industries can develop competitive advantages amid this on-going sea change reconsolidating global supply chains. Ta Ya Group intends to develop into a green powerhouse leading the energy industry with innovation, change forward thinking and strengthening its environmental, social, and corporate governance structures to ensure Taiwan’s transformation to green, sufficient and stable energy.
