2024 Ta Ya Group Northern Region Family Day - "Building" New Homes, Cleaning Up "Pollution"
This year's Ta Ya Group Northern Region Family Day was held on November 23rd (Saturday), launching an environmentally friendly and culturally rich event at Xinwu Driftwood Park in Xinwu District, Taoyuan City, with enthusiastic participation from 110 northern region employees and their families. The activity theme was "Beach Cleanup and Cultural Exploration." In the morning, participants first went to Xinwu Driftwood Park for beach cleanup and invited Director Xu Su-Zhen from the local Taoyuan Stone Tidal Weir Association to help everyone understand the century-old Xinwu stone weir complex. In the afternoon, they moved to the Xinwu Stone Weir Story House for deeper understanding of stone weir culture.
Beach Cleanup to Protect the Coast, Exploring Century-Old Stone Weirs
Xinwu Driftwood Park is the southern terminus of the "Xinwu Green Corridor," adjacent to the Xinwu coastline, making it a popular destination for many visitors to rest, enjoy scenery, and get close to nature. Many families enjoy watching sunsets here, strolling on the beach, or bringing children to experience nature. However, as visitor numbers increase, coastal waste problems have gradually emerged. In this activity, Ta Ya Group colleagues took concrete action to inject new life into the Xinwu coast, working together to clean up 118 kilograms of waste, restoring the beach to cleanliness.
During the beach cleanup, Director Xu Su-Zhen from the Taoyuan Stone Tidal Weir Association also guided everyone to understand the century-old Xinwu stone weir complex, personally experiencing these magnificent structures that embody ancient wisdom. Xinwu stone weirs are built by hand-stacking local pebbles, with some extending over a thousand meters in total length, serving as important symbols of traditional fishing culture. Building stone weirs requires the cooperation of entire villages, often taking several years or even more than ten years to complete. The principle of stone weir fishing utilizes high tide to bring fish into the embankment, then captures trapped fish when the tide recedes, demonstrating ancient people's ecological wisdom adapted to local conditions.
Afternoon Cultural Exploration, Learning Stone Weir Stories
In the afternoon, Ta Ya Group colleagues moved to the Xinwu Stone Weir Story House for a series of rich cultural experiences. Indoor guided tours led everyone to understand the construction history of stone weirs and their importance to local fishermen; dry land stone weir experiences allowed children and adults to work together, simulating the stone weir stacking process; ecological explanations revealed the rich natural resources of the Xinwu Green Corridor, further strengthening environmental protection concepts. Through multi-perspective interactions, participants not only learned about the cultural value of Xinwu stone weirs but also felt the importance of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
Fighting Plastic Pollution, Building TAYA Pristine Homeland Foundation Together
According to research in the scientific journal "Nature," up to 14 million tons of plastic enter the ocean annually, causing serious threats to ecosystems. Ta Ya Group deeply understands the importance of environmental protection, so the Ta Ya Pristine Homeland Foundation initiated this activity with the core concept of "environmentally friendly, TAYA Pristine Homeland Foundation," calling on employees and related friendly enterprises to jointly protect nature.
Through this beach cleanup and cultural exploration activity, participants not only physically improved the environment but also learned about the value of Xinwu stone weirs as examples of traditional wisdom and ecological conservation. We hope this belief in environmental friendliness can be deeply planted in every participant's heart and continue to influence more people to jointly protect our homeland in the future.
