In response to the frequent news of fires caused by appliances or electric wire equipments, Green Inside of Ta Ya Cable understands and fulfills corporate social responsibility by joining with the Taiwan Professional Electrical Engineers Association to co-host the “Electrical Safety Inspection for Old Homes” event on the 4th quarter of 2017. By inspecting two homes every week, they have serviced over 60 households as now today. A professional electrical engineer revealed that during the inspections, the public is generally lacking in electrical knowledge. Compounded with assigning the task to the wrong person, people often unknowingly put themselves in danger. The inspection for old homes is completely free. It is a rare opportunity to receive such a comprehensive electrical inspection and knowledge. TAYA Pristine Homeland Foundation pointed out that household electricity consumption is often ignored because it cannot be seen or touched. There are often news of accidents caused by incorrect electrical use. Old homes more than 30 years old that have not been maintained desperately require a comprehensive inspection. In reality, the public is unable to find such a complete service in the market. Therefore the foundation invited the electrical use and distribution expert, the Taiwan Professional Electrical Engineers Association, to provide homeowners with comprehensive and professional electrical equipment safety inspections, switchboard status inspections, electrical equipment casting leakage inspections, and electric wire insulation inspections. Engineer Huang, Yi-Jun of the Taiwan Professional Electrical Engineers Association expressed that after joining the inspections for old homes and being in touch with homeowners, he discovered that many people have paradoxical or incorrect electrical knowledge. The most common mistakes are to 1) bind wires for convenience or cosmetics, but bent wires can easily gather heat and burn up; 2) exposed plugs from mopping or accidentally kicking sockets on the floor can reduce the metal contact surface area, leading to dangerous heat accumulation; 3) inverting the power plug of electric pots may also lead to power leakage.

Huang, Yi-Jun pointed out that some homes frequently trip the circuit breaker, so the owners try to change or connect thicker wires themselves or hire unlicensed electricians, making things even worse. He fears for the safety of the homeowners. Overall, the public is lacking in electrical knowledge. Compounded with assigning the task to the wrong person, people often unknowingly put themselves in danger.
For the inspection for old homes project, in addition to the external inspections on electricity use and distribution by professional electrical engineers, professional devices are also used to test “electricity that cannot be seen”. During the inspection process, the most valuable lesson is learning the correct electrical knowledge and explaining the different electricity distributions of each household. This is an exclusive service that the public can grasp. Homeowners with houses more than 30 years old are welcome to apply.

The foundation emphasized that the inspection for old homes is completely free of charge. The foundation sponsors the cooperation with the Taiwan Professional Electrical Engineers Association. People need not worry. Many homeowners are spreading the good news. The word of mouth is spreading. The service covers the Taipei–Keelung metropolitan area to Taoyuan, with plans to expand to Taichung, Tainan, and other southern regions. The Taiwan Professional Electrical Engineers Association will standardize and pass on the inspection procedure so everyone in Taiwan can enjoy the service and safeguard electrical safety together.
