Ta Ya Electric Wire & Cable Creates New Green Energy Business Through Leading Energy Brand, and Fosters Sustainable Tainan Culture

After COP26, net zero carbon emissions has become a market mechanism and facilitates the international competition for energy transformation. Tainan City is actively developing green energy, and its solar installed capacity accounts for nearly 20% of the nation's total, ranking it first among Taiwan’s six special municipalities. TAYA Group, which is based in Tainan, is a leading brand in energy connections and has ventured into the field of smart grids, providing complete turnkey solutions from energy generation, transmission, conversion, storage to management, fully responding to the government's green energy policy and creating mutual benefit and prosperity for the local community.

"As global warming intensifies, countries around the world are pushing for green energy development, and Taiwan needs a green energy city with international visibility," said Tainan mayor Huang, Wei-Che, adding that it is inevitable for Taiwan to promote energy transformation to meet the demand of enterprises and the public for electricity and to utilize clean energy with less environmental impact. In order to support the central government's goal of transforming Taiwan to net-zero emissions by 2050, Tainan City is actively developing renewable energy to meet the rising demand for green power from local industries. Huang, Wei-Che pointed out that Tainan has the longest sunshine hours in Taiwan and has very suitable natural resources to promote solar power, which is one of the advantages of developing green energy.

Tainan-based TAYA Group, which was founded 67 years ago, is a leading brand in energy connection. In recent years, it has been actively and sustainably transforming its business, and has ventured into the field of smart grids to respond to the government's green energy policy. TAYA Group Chairman Shen, Shang-Hung noted that TAYA Group has laid out a carbon reduction blueprint to review the carbon emissions generated by the manufacturing process and move from carbon reduction to zero carbon emissions, "Ta Ya has been actively developing solar power and exploring new suitable sites. From sunshine hours and land acquisition to the support from the city government, it is very conducive to the development of the industry." Ta Ya's primary goal for this year is to complete the Jhih-Guang Energy fishery and electricity symbiosis solar power plant. In addition to the fishery and electricity symbiosis projects, the Group is also targeting suitable rooftop and ground-mounted sites and continues to invest in the renewable energy industry.

Uniquely Suited to Solar Power Generation
Tainan Fosters Green Energy Investments that Benefits All

"Tainan, the ancient capital of Taiwanese culture, is also the capital of green energy," remarked Mayor Huang, adding that the current capacity of installed solar energy in Taiwan is about 12.45 GW. Tainan has a combined reported capacity of 2.79 GW of ground-mounted and roof-mounted solar power systems, making up around 20% of total installed capacity, ranking first among the six special municipalities in Taiwan. It is estimated that 3.3 billion kWh of electricity can be generated annually, which is equivalent to the annual capacity of 12 Zengwen Reservoir hydroelectric power plants, and provides enough electricity to power nearly 945,000 households for a whole year. This means an carbon reduction of about 1.69 million tons.

"In order to achieve the policy goal of 20% of renewable energy generation by 2025, the Tainan City Government has set a target of 3GW in 2024 to promote the most advantageous solar power energy generation system, including the development of rooftop type and fishery-electricity symbiosis systems. The city government is actively promoting green energy investment to create win-win situation for all by synchronizing multi-land use and industrial upgrades," remarked Mayor Huang with ambition and confidence.

"The international trend of carbon neutrality is a lofty challenge and a great opportunity for companies," said TAYA Group Chairman Shen, Shang-Hung. TSMC and international companies such as Google and Apple have joined RE100, declaring that they will switch to 100% green power in the future and demanding a net-zero carbon emission supply chain. In order to compete internationally, Taiwan industries must accelerate their sustainable transformation.

The purchase of 10MW of renewable energy power from Tainan by Google in 2020 is evidence of the rising demand for renewable energy certificates (RECs) by domestic enterprises; TSMC, the leading semiconductor company with a fab plant in Southern Taiwan Science Park, has set "25% of electricity consumption in all production plants and 100% in non-production plants sourced from renewable energy" as its sustainability goal for 2030, epitomizing the unlimited business opportunities of developing renewable energy.

Ta Ya has expanded from its core industry to the green energy industry, building a complete service chain from energy creation to green power trading, and even joining the 5G Tainan team to build the cable industry's first "building-block flexible smart production line". Ta Ya is also the only leading cable brand in Taiwan that possesses the technology of ultra-high voltage power and telecommunications transmission products, green energy, energy storage and smart manufacturing. Ta Ya's quality products are found in mobile phones, ships, buildings, power plants, MRTs, high-speed rail and EVs, and its products are sold worldwide.

As soon as Ta Ya completed the installation of ground-based solar power systems in Xuejia District, it commenced the development of solar power for fishery and electricity symbiosis systems in Qigu, Tainan, proving the potential and importance of developing fishery and electricity symbiosis in Tainan. This not only promotes the upgrade of local aquaculture, optimizing the land use model of fish ponds, but also promotes a new economic model with green energy generation.

"We hope to promote the multiple use of land for fish and electricity symbiosis. We hope to revitalize idle land to maintain the balance of green energy and ecology. We hope to construct a prototype of future green energy city with Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City, incorporating 5G technology to drive the digital transformation of industry and create a low-carbon green energy technology city. Tainan City is committed to integrating the demand and supply chain of the industry, revitalizing the local green energy industry, and building a sustainable green energy environment," said Mayor Huang, with the expectation that Tainan will do its best to help SMEs break into another blue ocean and demonstrate the sustainable power of the green economy, whether it is through the 5G Tainan team or the digitalization of traditional industries.
