The board of directors of Ta Ya Group subsidiary Ta Ya Green Energy Technology decided to acquire Tatung subsidiary Zhiguang Energy,Building Taiwan’s largest TWD 6 billion aquaculture and solar power symbiosis combined fish farm and solar power plant

Amid environmental degradation and energy shortages, the world has entered a critical phase in the energy transition, which is especially pertinent to Taiwan as an island nation with limited resources. The Executive Yuan’s “Green Energy Technology Industry Innovation and Promotion Action Plan” promotes energy generation, energy storage, energy conservation, and system integration as the main approaches to this energy transition. The policy goal of 20% power generation from renewable sources is expected to be achieved in 2025.On the 25th , Ta Ya Green Energy Technology, a subsidiary of Ta Ya Group, decided to acquire Zhiguang Energy, a subsidiary of Tatung Company, for the price of TWD 938 million, and build Taiwan’s largest combined fish farm and solar power plant in Qigu District, Tainan City in southern Taiwan. Over the next 20 years, the sizeable production capacity on this double-use land will generate more than 3 billion kWh of electricity with a value of TWD 12 billion.

Fishery-based, value-adding, advanced green energy generated at the largest combined aquaculture and solar power plant in Taiwan

Green energy is a key energy policy and in line with public opinion. To pursue environmental sustainability and develop green energy technologies for common prosperity, Ta Ya Green Energy Technology focuses on green energy technology services, and sees a bright future in the photovoltaic market, as centralized power distribution will transform into a decentralized web of on-site renewable energy supply. The company will spend TWD 6 billion to build Taiwan’s largest combined fish farm and solar power plant in Taiwan, with a 160-hectare surface, in the Sanguzi Section of Qigu District, Tainan City. The government has listed “fish farm and power generation symbiosis” as one of its main policy foci. In response to this, Ta Ya Green Energy Technology took action and spotted the “Zhiguang Energy Solar Power Plant.” After four years of land preparation, environmental surveys and sensitivity analysis, this project takes economic sustainability and environmental protection without affecting the existing fishery and aquaculture businesses. This innovative combination of farming and power generation creates a new win-win for all stakeholders.

Generating, storing and saving energy will empower local fish farming for the next 20 years

Ta Ya Green Energy Technology has the ability to improve the symbiosis of fish farming and power generation—a main direction in the government’s green energy policy—through system integration and developing this large-scale project, which retains fish farming as the core supplemented by green energy generation. Under this value proposition, the company contributes to government policy while supporting local businesses to maximize production capacity and efficiency. The project will comprise a fishery management plan for the next 20 years, which will feature innovative combined construction of fish farming and power generation facilities, improving the issues of idle land and unemployment in farming and fishing villages, and revitalizing their industry and communities. The Zhiguang Energy Solar Power Plant will use circular, sustainable and ecological construction and installation methods to solve issues that conventional engineering companies cannot take into account. It will also improve the energy storage system and electricity distribution through a local power grid, using Ta Ya’s own high, medium, and low voltage cables for solar energy that are certified, low-loss, and highly weather-resistant, which improves the construction and installation quality of the site. Rigorous progress control in this innovative combined intelligent aquaculture and power generation project will create a better balance among industry, ecology and quality of life.

Through its green power mission, Ta Ya Group empowers the local level

Corporate governance measures intangible assets, brand value and reputation through environmental, social and governance (ESG) indicators, and only through cutting-edge transformation can sustainable competitiveness be maintained. From its green energy mission, Ta Ya Group proactively cooperates with international trends and national policies. Thus, its subsidiary Ta Ya Green Energy Technology completed its first large-scale solar energy park construction in Taiwan last year, and this year it builds on that achievement through its acquisition of a Tatung subsidiary. Ta Ya Group chairman Shen, Shang-Hung stated that drawing on its technical expertise in cabling and solar power plant construction, the group will continue to invest in unleashing the full potential of green energy creation, storage and conservation. The total installed capacity of Zhiguang Energy’s solar power plant will be 120 MW. Construction is expected to start in the second quarter of 2021. Hengs Technology will take care of system integration, to be completed by the end of 2022. The plant is expected to generate at least 3 billion kWh of electricity over the next 20 years, with estimated revenues of more than TWD 12 billion. Ta Ya Group will continue to lead the energy market in line with government policies and regulations. It plans to add 50 MW of ground-based solar energy park every year until 2025. Once Zhiguang Energy has completed the 250 MW solar power plant and connected it to the grid, Ta Ya Group will operate it and earn TWD 1.5 billion revenue from it per year. Ta Ya has the capabilities to optimize the power generation efficiency of this power plant over the next 20 years and assist green power producers and enterprises in other industries based on recognition and trust to achieve symbiosis, mutual benefit and common prosperity to bring power to Taiwan.
