The 5G Tainan Team has added a new member to its ranks! Tainan Mayor Huang, Wei-Che, accompanied by Minister Kung, Ming-Hsin, Chairman of the National Development Council (NDC) and Chiueh, Her-Ming, Human Resources Director of the Asia Silicon Valley Development Agency (ASVDA), jointly witnessed as Ta Ya Electric Wire & Cable (1609), Pioneer Machinery, and TransNet Technology signed an MOU for the "Wire & Cable Smart Factory 5G Dedicated Frequency and Network Flexible Production Solution Project" today (Feb 23). Through the introduction of 5G and AITO technology applications, the three parties will create the cable industry's first "building-block type flexible smart production line", which will open up a new production landscape for traditional cable manufacturing plants.

The Tainan City Government is committed to promoting 5G dedicated frequency network spectrums and digital transformation of the traditional industries. The signing of the MOU is another prime example of the city government's efforts to promote the 5G digital transformation of traditional industries, following the establishment of a 5G Tainan team last year (2021) to assist the automotive lighting manufacturer, Eagle Eyes Traffic Industrial, in introducing 5G dedicated networks to promote digital transformation with AI application technology.

During the event, NDC Chairman Minister Kung, Ming-Hsin pointed out that there are more than 3,600 companies involved in traditional industries in Tainan, and many thriving "hidden champions" are heavily invested in Tainan. To address the global business opportunities of 5G and smart cities, the NDC and the Tainan City Government have been collaborating since last year (2021) to promote the development of the Asia Silicon Valley Smart 5G Innovative Applications for Cities and Townships. By utilizing the reliability and low latency of 5G dedicated frequency network spectrums, each machinery equipment and online quality control system can be integrated with the smart factory application service platform through 5G communications to achieve the agile scheduling and dispatching of traditional production line equipment, accelerating the digital transformation of enterprises and enhancing technological autonomy.

Tainan Mayor Huang, Wei-Che personally attended the signing ceremony and noted that 40% of Tainan's annual output value comes from the manufacturing industry, which indicates that the manufacturing industry is the economic lifeblood of the city's economy. The city government team helped to facilitate the use of Panasonic's 5G dedicated network solutions by Eagle Eyes Traffic Industrial last year, which significantly reduced the training time for new staff and improved the precision of assembly. However, the total population of Taiwan is gradually decreasing, and it is expected that manpower will become a precious resource in the future. As Taiwan is facing the impact of structural demographic changes, it is necessary for leading enterprises to "join hands", consolidating the city's outstanding hidden champion enterprises with the most advanced technology, and integrate cutting edge technology into industry development to upgrade industries. This will serve to reverse human resource shortage barriers and deploy valuable manpower into positions that really matter.

Huang further added that the project was made possible thanks to the support of the National Development Council, the commitment and investment of Ta Ya Electric Wire & Cable, and the full support of Pioneer Machinery and TransNet Technology. Optimistic about the future applications of 5G dedicated networks, the city will continue to promote sound industrial development policies and contribute to the upgrading of industries in the region.

Chen, Kai-Ling, Secretary of the Economic Development Bureau of the Tainan City Government, indicated that in recent years, Tainan's investment promotion efforts has been fruitful. In addition to the NT$1.25 trillion investment by TSMC and UMC, Tainan has attracted a total of NT$99.5 billion of investment from January 2019 to December 2021, creating more than NT$180 billion of output value and more than 30,000 new jobs.

Chen further added that the city government team will continue to provide dedicated, specialized, and project-specific quality services in a one-stop investment promotion approach to solve the "five shortages" of water, electricity, labor, land, and talent, and to help enterprises remove barriers to investment.

The newest member of the 5G Tainan Team, Ta Ya Electric Wire & Cable, which is entering its 67th year, is the only leading cable brand in Taiwan that produces ultra-high voltage power and telecommunication transmission and green energy, energy storage and smart manufacturing technologies. Its high-quality products can be found in mobile phones, ships, buildings, power plants, MRTs, high-speed rail and EVs, and are sold worldwide.

TA YA cable products have created many "firsts" in the domestic cable industry, including: the first to produce 345KV ultra-high voltage power cables in 2008, the first to produce lead-free PVC cables in Taiwan in 2009, the first to obtain carbon footprint labels in 2013, the first lead-free Green Factory, the first to receive the International Green Classics Product Award from the Ministry of Economic Affairs for low smoke and halogen-free products, and the first cable company to issue a CSR report. The company's long-standing commitment to green business has been well received by the public and the industry.p>
